Nian Song

Nian Song (1911 - 1998) was active/lived in China, Singapore.  Nian Song is known for Chinese calligraphy, scroll painting.

Reverend Song Nian had practiced calligraphy since the age of six years old and had the privilege of gaining tutelage from Xiao Tiu’an, the famous Jiangnan scholar. He then eventually studied Buddhism and medicine before abdicating to become a monk. Born in Taizhoi in the Jiangsu province of China in 1911, he eventually moved to Singapore in the 1960s and became the abbot of Phou Tai Kok Temple. His practice of calligraphy and painting were a part of the Reverend’s undertaking of various art forms that propagate Dharma. The calligraphy and Chinese ink paintings of Rev. Song Nian had been regarded as national treasure of Singapore. In 1993, the reverend donated all his paintings to the Singapore National Museum. His works are also in the collection of Taipei Palace Museum in Taiwan. Highly regarded by the leaders of Singapore, the works of Rev.
